The General Directorate of Customs has published an official table setting reference values for each category of phone. Eight classes have been defined, ranging from basic models (5,000 FCFA) to high-end smartphones (400,000 FCFA). A single rate of 33.33% is applied to each of these values to calculate duties and taxes.
For example, a Category 1 phone incurs approximately 1,670 FCFA in duties, while a Category 8 device is subject to nearly 135,000 FCFA in duties. Customs clarifies that these amounts do not represent the purchase price, but rather a tax base used for assessment.
Values revised downwards
To take into account the purchasing power of Cameroonian consumers, the reference values have been reduced by a factor of four to seven. This decision aims to encourage the registration of devices while ensuring better traceability of the flow of goods. Mandatory Verification
Users are encouraged to check the customs status of their phones via the platform mpie.camcis.cm. By entering the device’s IMEI, they can ensure their device is compliant.
